Women's Rights - What about "man"kind?

Two persons go for a job interview. One is a normal, average Joe-looking man, who is very good at this work. The other is a smoking hot blonde who barely knows what she is doing. No prizes for guessing who gets the job. The Constitution (108th Amendment) Bill, popularly known as the Women's Reservation Bill, seeks to provide thirty three per cent reservation of seats in the Lower house of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and state legislative assemblies for women. If after reading the above story, you jump to the conclusion that I am in the same league as Lalu Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav in opposition to this bill, please hear me out.

The Art of Ogling

Me and my roommate were returning from a movie theater when I noticed a girl in a black dress and black goggles who seemed to be pretty. Maybe I looked for a second too long at her that I was chided by my roommate. "Dude, don't look at girls like that!!", he said out aloud, much to my embarrassment and his delight. This made me think and write about - How the hell do you look at girls? Let me set the ground rules before you read on. Don't despise men who stare at girls or think of them as perverts. They are doing a public service. This is how it works - Girls spend time, effort and money in buying makeup, clothes and other numerous accessories which make them look good. Have you ever thought why they go through so much trouble?

Pune's Taliban!!

One fine day I was going to my office (on second thought the day on which I have to go to office can't be a fine day!) when I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Hey! You didn't recognize me!!", complained a strange women who had her face completely covered in a cloth with only two holes near the eyes as her gateway to the world. I stared at her puzzled, racking my brain to identify her voice, but wasn't getting anywhere. "Er... how can I recognize you when all I can see are two eyes?". "Idiot!!... I am Shruti", she shrieked. Oh yes!! I said sorry for not recognizing her as we entered the office. (To this day I wonder why I said sorry? It wasn't my fault.) I had often wondered why girls in Pune cover up their faces when they go outside. Today was my chance to get the answer from the horse's mouth. So I asked Shruti about it which soon turned into a heated argument. Some excerpts: Shruti: "See, the cloth protects us from the sun and ...

Height of Inequality

One day, while sitting in the office canteen with my friend, I asked her to hypothetically assume that she was single. Then would she date me? She was taken aback by the question . “What kind of question is that? I won’t answer it”, she exclaimed. “What is so surprising about it?”, I asked. “Look I am not saying that you date me or any such thing? I am just asking you that am I the kind of boy that girls would like? And what better person to answer that than you? You know me since such a long time. So just answer the question.” Being a girl and my friend she again refused. But I insisted. So she finally gave up and said the thing that I was dreading. “No I wouldn’t go out with you.” “Why not?”, I was devastated, “I want a reason. May be I can work on it.” “OK. You don’t have the height”, she replied. Man!! If she would have said that I don’t have a good physique (which I don’t have), or charm (which again I don’t have) or any other thing, then maybe I could have worked on it. But she s...
